October 25th is a special day for the Little Sisters because it is the birthday of St. Jeanne Jugan (she would be 222 years old!). Many do not realize that she was baptized that same day, and the church bells would have rung after the Baptism.
At Villa Guadalupe we had the Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation of one of our Navajo Residents, Ben Chischilly. Ben had wanted to receive the Eucharist so badly and didn’t want to have to wait till Easter.
Two of our Residents from the Apartments had helped Ben, one began by teaching him the “Hail Mary” and “Our Father” so he could join us with the Rosary (Pat), and the other catechized him in the faith (Kathleen). Ben went faithfully for his lessons and joined us for Mass and the Rosary every day.
The day of the Baptism he was very nervous, but filled with much joy to be able to finally receive Holy Communion. For his Confirmation name, Ben chose , “Joseph.”
We continue to pray for Ben as he draws closer to our Lord.
