At the age of 96, Fr. Terrence Rhoades, O.F.M. celebrated 70 years of Priesthood here at Villa Guadalupe. Ordained at the age of 26 in the Franciscan’s Cincinnati Province and then later came to Our Lady of Guadalupe Province when it was formed. New Mexico soon became his home as he served many years in both Zuni and Tohatchi.
Although Father Terrence was never fluent in Navajo or Zuni, he lived the simplicity of St. Francis, and bringing Christ to many. His great love for bird watching touched the hearts of many children and adults alike.
Father was known by many of the religious sisters in the area as a very good confessor, but unfortunately as he has aged his loss of hearing has cut him off from many activities. He spends much time in the chapel and the library, and enjoys going on outings, especially when the Residents go to Zuni. We thank him for his fidelity to his Priesthood.
