The last few years we have had the great joy of having students from Steubenville for their spring break. This year was no exception.
Their week experience was various; working in the garden, playing bingo with the Residents and joining us in one of our “Year of faith” gatherings. The Residents were so happy to have them help to animate the discussion. It was interesting to hear the Residents who had children to say they pray so much for their children and grandchildren, for so many have lost their faith.
The Steubenville students spoke on the “other side,” speaking of reasons so many young people in our society have lost their faith, especially the young. One of the students said that so many are so in tuned with the different devices like the internet, tweeter, I-pods, etc that they have tuned out the rest of the world, and little by little the truth. This encounter was an eye opener for both ages. For the young, to see that the Elderly pray they do not loose their faith. For the Elderly, to see the many things in the world that are taking them away from the faith and their families.
