The “Spring into Service” program started several years ago. In the program, young women can work in one of our Homes and at the same time to learn about the Little Sisters of the Poor, working with the Sisters and staff in the Charism of St. Jeanne Jugan.
This year we have two young women, Abigail (who is from Denver and goes to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska) and Rose (who is from the state of Washington and attends the Franciscan University at Steubenville).
They have learned many new skills such as working at the reception desk, helping in the pantry, setting up for Mass and how to say the Divine Office. More importantly, they learned to love and respect the Elderly and the philosophy of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Since it is a summer program, they come during their Summer Vacation, usually for about six-weeks.
The Residents always enjoy having the young people, to see them excited about things that they do during the day. The young women always find Residents that are special to them, whether they remind them of a grandparent, have much in common or are just a challenge.
We know that they mill have many fond memories of their stay here at Villa Guadalupe!
