For the last six years, the youth group from St. Mary Magdalen in Gilbert, Arizona has come on a “Mission Trip” in which they do services for us.
This year, there are about 40 young people involved and they did service projects in the diocese. Villa Guadalupe usually had about seven to work on projects in the Home.
Recently, they painted the parking lot. It was difficult since the day they were to begin it rained in the morning (after the parking spaces were blocked off and everything was prepared for them). Yet in the afternoon it cleared up enough to begin the painting.
One evening was Bingo night with the Residents, right after supper, followed by a “question and answer” period with the Sisters. The youth always enjoy this evening because they have many questions for the Sisters. On this evening all the young people came. There were several who had been coming for several years.
Each year, they also have a Seminarian with them. This year there was one Seminarian and several others who are discerning the priesthood or the Consecrated Life. This year is dedicated to Consecrated Life, and we pray for this intention each day. We pray that they do not lose the joy that they have in serving the Lord!
Thank you St. Mary Magdalen for sharing your youth with our Elderly Residents.
