As many people begin to think of Christmas, here at Villa Guadalupe we begin the season of “Advent.” The word “Advent” means coming (the coming of Christ) and is a preparation for welcoming the Christ child into the world and in our hearts. In years gone by, Advent was called “a little Lent,” yet it is very different from Lent. In preparing for Christmas, we read the many reading of the Old Testament which describes the Messiah and tell of his coming.

The four candles on the “Advent Wreath” symbolize the four week of Advent, the third candle is rose colored which is lite on the Third Sunday of Advent which is called “Gaudete Sunday” which means “to rejoice.” We rejoice because Christmas is near and we sing with joy “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” to prepare for the Celebration of Christmas.
