We were privileged to have Bishop James A. Wall come to celebrate our Midnight Mass at 7:00 PM this Christmas. The Chapel was full, with many family members and friends of the home. Mass began with a hymn in Navajo “Sołtį’, Da’iinohdláani” (O Come, All Ye Faithful), sung by members of a Navajo Class that meet in the home. There were many Navajos Residents who came to Mass for Christmas Mass and it gave them much pleasure to hear the entrance and the Communion Meditation sung in Navajo (Silent Night). The Resident who brought up the Infant, Pat Mitchell, had worked at St. Michael’s the Indian School (there are several Residents who came to the Gallup to teach in the schools in the area or to work in the Indian Hospital).
Following Mass, the Bishop greeted all the Residents and families that joined us. One of the Residents celebrated his birthday that day and received a blessing from the Bishop, it meant so much to him.
