Thank you, Gallup!
On August 31, Residents, Sisters, Associates, Staff, and Friends joined the Little Sisters of the Poor in thanking Gallup for its support over these last 35 years. Announcements were made on the local radio explaining more about the parade.
Staff and Sisters joined in the preparations. Talented staff members created cloth banners painted with various images of Saint Jeanne Jugan, first Little Sister of the Poor. The banners were meticulously measured so that they would fit perfectly on the vehicles.
When the time came, balloons were inflated, leis intertwined to form a chain, fringes made, all used to transform the various vehicles into floats! A couple of residents came out to provide their own feedback on how things should be done.
Once the time came, the vehicles made their way to downtown Gallup, passing in front of the Courthouse, to arrive at Gurley’s Motor, the starting point of the parade. Willing Residents were assisted and secured on the “float.” The parade was lead on by the Knights of Columbus, the Gallup Fire Department, and State Farm Insurance. The residents were thrilled to have this opportunity to be in a parade, although small, and waved at everyone whom they saw on the streets. Supporters cheered as they saw this once in a lifetime sight.
