Here at Villa Guadalupe, we are grateful for the many Veterans that either live in our Home or volunteer at the Home. Here in Gallup there is a program that is very active in the area called “Veterans helping Veterans.” They are a fairly new group, and are comprised of Veterans from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the other more current wars.
Each Monday afternoon a group from “Veterans helping Veterans” comes to play games with the Residents, such as Bowling, Horse Racing and Word Search. It is a wonderful program, since so many of our Residents are Veterans. There are also a couple of Veterans who also come during the week to volunteer.
We have a couple of Residents that have joined. The members wear red shirts and black vests when serving in the group. Sami Daniels is very active and often out as an Honor Guard at funerals of a Veteran or for such things as a flag-raising or a dedication of a fire station, etc… Sami has also been name the Grand Marshall of the Veteran’s Day Parade. We are proud of our Veterans and we thank them for all they have done for our Country and all that they do for us at Villa Guadalupe.
