We had the pleasure of having the Youth Group from “Christ Our Light” Parish in Navasota, Texas (from the Archdiocese of Houston/Galveston) who were on a mission trip. This was their first time with us at Villa Guadalupe, and they rendered much service. They also joined us several times through the week at Mass and the Rosary.
They did several service projects, helping us with our parking lot, since the lines are re-painted each year, (painting the curbs red and yellow and painting the lines white).
They also joined in Bingo and “hosting” the monthly Birthday Party. Bingo was an afternoon activity that both the students and the Residents enjoyed. It was fun just helping a Resident to win a game of Bingo.
The Youth Group animated the monthly Birthday Party with a “Hawaiian” theme. As the Residents arrived in the auditorium, Hawaiian music was being played. Each Resident had his or her picture taken, all wearing “Hawaiian shirts and leis.” Some of the students wore grass skirts. After serving the Residents refreshments of cake and punch, the young people played a game with a beach ball and Hawaiian music (this game was much like musical chairs but using a ball instead).
These young people shared their talents, but most of all they shared their love for people and the joy of being Christians. We pray for them that they will continue to grow in our Lord.
